This is Adidas' superior 'player issue' version of the jersey, as worn by the players. It features an upgraded, lightweight material mix, heat bonded panels, transfer manufacturer logo on the chest and Formotion motif near the lower hem.

On June 8, 2005, Japan qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, its third consecutive World Cup, by beating North Korea 2–0 on neutral ground.
