Despite having led West Ham to three consecutive European seasons for the first time in their history, reaching at least the quarter-finals of each and culminating in the 2023 success, Moyes was not offered a new contract. On 23 May 2024, the club named Julen Lopetegui as his replacement. However Lopetegui would be sacked on 8 January 2025 with the team in 14th position, seven points above the relegation positions; during his tenure, they lost nine of 20 Premier League games.
On 9 January Graham Potter was appointed as head coach signing a two–and–a–half year contract. This lasted until 27 September 2025 when Potter was sacked following poor results and performances over the second half of the 2024–25 season and the start of the 2025–26 season. Nuno Espírito Santo was appointed to take charge of the team, with West Ham 19th in the league.
By January 2026, Nuno's own managership was under question as they hit bottom three. After a stronger March and April which found them battling with Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest around the relegation zone, West Ham's defeat to Newcastle United on 17 May left them needing other results to go their way to avoid the drop. Despite a 3–0 win on the final day of the 2025–26 season at home to Leeds United, relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur won against Everton, relegating West Ham.
