On 25 May 2025, former player and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was appointed as Real Madrid manager on a three-year contract. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup marked his professional managerial debut, with Real Madrid drawing 1–1 against Al-Hilal before suffering a 4–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final.
After the Club World Cup, Madrid finalized the signings of two other players: Álvaro Carreras from Benfica and Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, registering the latter as a Castilla player.
