On 17 May 2018, QPR appointed former England manager Steve McClaren as manager. Despite promising first half of the season in which the team defeated the likes of Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Brentford - 2019 would be a poor year with the team going on a 7 game losing streak. Following a 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened Bolton, McClaren was sacked on 1 April 2019 after less than a year in charge.

On 8 May 2019, Mark Warburton was appointed as McClaren’s successor on a two-year deal.
