Euro 2004 was Cristiano Ronaldo's first international tournament and wore his first international squad number, 17. Playing for Manchester United at the time he was still considered a 'raw' talent - an unpolished diamond. His trademark silky skills and quick feet were already in place and attracting great expectation from the football world. Ronaldo scored twice on the way to the final against Greece and the Netherlands, and was named in the Uefa Euro All-Star team for the tournament.

Ronaldo also represented Portugal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, scoring a goal in the tournament, although the Portuguese Olympic football squad was eliminated in the first round, finishing bottom of their group with three points.
