Cole is a product of the West Ham United youth system and was long touted as the hottest prospect in English football. After breaking into the first team in January 1999, he played more than 120 Premier League games over five seasons. Cole left West Ham in the summer of 2003, after the club had been relegated to the Football League First Division, and signed for Chelsea where he won the Premier League titles on three occasions.
Cole was a full international between 2001 and 2010, earning 56 England caps, scoring 10 goals. He was selected for the England squad at the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cups and Euro 2004.
