After facing a disappointing defeat against London counterparts Chelsea, Arsenal fans will have felt like things could only get easier; but it certainly doesn’t get easier as the North London side travel to the Allianz mid-week.
Surely this is something the Gunners are used to now, they’ve played Bayern Munich in pretty much every Champions League campaign of recent years. But it’s arguably never been bigger than this time round.
Arsenal find themselves in fourth position, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, so there only realistic hopes of silverware are the Champions League and the FA Cup, the obvious one is less likely than the other.
The Champions League is one that Arsenal have never won, so it grows more and more important each year. Over the years they’ve been unlucky with draws, mainly due to not topping their group. So when the Gunners topped their group this time round, the eyes of the fans must have lit up in the hopes of an easy route. However, perhaps inevitably, they still found a way to draw the German giants.
One man to look out for from the Arsenal camp is Olivier Giroud. He’s gained quite the reputation this season for scoring at important times and he’ll be hoping for more of the same when he meets the German side.
Giroud has had some pretty fiery meetings with Neuer in the past, scoring three goals in his last 4 four games against Bayern.
Will he be Arsenal’s saviour yet again this time round? Only time will tell.
